Coaching, counseling or psychotherapy?
What's the difference?
-
Coaching helps you craft your future by moving
forward with an identified situation. We'll find
where your strengths are. Do you know what to do
intellectually but lack encouragement or motivation
to follow through? Working with a coach helps you
not only strategize, but also helps you by being
accountable for following through on a plan.
Coaching helps you identify and strive towards a
goal that's important to you.
-
Counseling is the supportive process of identifying
a problem, and suggesting or advising ways to 'fix'
it.
-
Psychotherapy is a clinical way of effecting deep,
usually permanent change. Often it addresses
significant issues such as trauma, abuse,
self-defeating patterns of behavior or defenses
mechanisms. The focus is more towards pathology
(what's 'wrong'), rather then what are the strengths
we can build upon.
I've been practicing as a psychotherapist since 1987. I
bring many of those skills to my coaching work, but draw
a distinction between the two. I practice both
psychotherapy
www.drjosielevine.com and also offer coaching
www.psycoach.com . If you're unsure which might be
more suitable to your situation,
contact me
for a free initial consultation for us to work out which
path is best for you.
